Transfer portal targets

Charlotte is hunting the transfer portal

Currently Charlotte has 1 transfer commitment, Wayne Jones, a transfer LB/S from Kansas State. Jones is originally from Owasso, Oklahoma, he redshirted in 2018, played in 2019, 2020 (doesn't count against eligibility) and 2021, so he'll have 2 seasons here in Charlotte starting in 2022.

Jones arrived at Kansas State in what was Bill Snyder's final recruiting class. During Chris Klieman's first year Jones started all 13 games for the Wildcats. In 2020 he appeared in all 10 contests, but in a reduced role, however he did make starts at the Safety and Nickel positions. This year he appeared in 12 games, but saw a drastic reduction in snaps over the last 4. During the season he appeared in 150 snaps.

The transfer portal has quickly became an integral lifeline for programs across the country, Charlotte has certainly leveraged the portal as well, and there is no reason to believe this off-season will be any different.

Let's get to it, here are some guys that I feel Charlotte could be targeting at this time. Side note, I fully expect for things to ramp up after New Years, classes begin on Monday, January 10th, and the last day to add for the semester is Tuesday, January 18th.

POTENTIAL TARGETS

Amir Siddiq, Central Michigan

6'2, 245lbs now and will have 2 seasons of eligibility remaining. Posted 36 tackles and 4.5 sacks. Siddiq participated in over 500 snaps this season and posted a 69.6 overall on PFF. For reference, Markees Watts posted a 66.4 overall.

Rashad Cheney, Minnesota

Currently committed to USF, Cheney is listed at 6'2, 290lbs and will have 3 seasons of eligibility remaining. I get the sense his recruitment could still be open even with the public commitment to USF.

Michael Vice, Samford

6'5, 253lbs Tight End who was named to Phil Steele's 4th Team All Freshman team in 2019 and Spring 2021 2nd Team All SOCON. This season he tallied 44 catches for 518 yards and 4 TD's. Will have 2 seasons of eligibility remaining.

Noah Plack, Delaware

6'2, 215lbs Defensive Back that will have 2 seasons of eligibility remaining. Plack played in 28 career games, amassing 159 tackles, 14 passes defended, 3 interceptions and 3 forced fumbles. He missed the first 3 games this season due to an injury. Posted a 66.8 overall per PFF.

Isaiah Johnson, Dartmouth

6'3, 205lbs Defensive Back that will have 1 season of eligibility remaining. Johnson made 55 tackles this seasons, along with 6 passes defended and a pick six. Has transfer offers from: Charlotte, Syracuse, UMass, Colorado, Western Michigan, Miami (OH), and others. Posted an impressive 84.4 overall PFF grade this season.

Qwahsin Townsel, Villanova

6'0, 225lbs Linebacker that will have 2 seasons of eligibility remaining. Totaled 45 tackles, 3 TFL's and 1 sack this season, while posting  70.2 overall per PFF.

What's being prioritized?

Based on the names we've seen emerge and receive offers via the transfer portal, it looks like Charlotte is targeting:

  •  P5 talent that hasn't had much of an opportunity to play yet.
  • FCS guys that have played well.
  • I think if we see G5 guys that are hitting the portal after not playing, those we chase would seemingingly be few and far between.
