HOw'd we do on my keys?
SECOND HALF OFFENSE
No PFF data for this one, but when Charlotte has lost this year the offense has disappeared in the 2nd half. Literally. CLT has scored ZERO offensive points this year in the 2nd half of all losses.
Assessment
Late game heroics brought Charlotte back late in the 4th. Not ideal, but better late than never
When Charlotte abandoned the run, the offense clicked. I know that Healy wants to be a run-first team, but this team simply isn't built for that. The data is there. Air it out.
CAN CHARLOTTE ESTABLISH THE RUN?
Rice has a team Run Defense grade of 51.3, which puts them at 112th in the country per PFF. This should translate into a favorable matchup for Charlotte on the ground, however CLT's Run Blocking this year grades out at 59.4, which is 104th overall, while the Run grad is good for 106th overall (74.7).
Assessment
No. Charlotte posted their season worst Run grade of 43.2 vs Rice. 24 carries for 57 yards, with a long of 44...
Get stops
Looking at the numbers, Rice is not a great offensive team. They have posted a 65.7 on Offense this year, good for 112th in the nation per PFF. 86th in Passing at 65.9 and 114th on the ground (73.4).
If there is a matchup where the CLT defense can gain some traction, this is it.
Assessment
Again, a hard no. Rice posted their top Run Block grade for the year at 79.8. All games vs FBS teams they had posted anywhere from 48.4-56.7. Versus FCS Texas Southern they posted a 74.2.
The struggles on defense with the run just continue.
