Q&A with Charlotte Baseball commit Caleb Ketchie

by Agent49 | Oct 1, 2020 | Olympic Sports

Baseball content? Yes, baseball content. I'm looking to keep subscribers as up-to-date as possible on Robert Woodard's program, particularly on the recruiting front. I highly encourage you to follow Diamond Niner Report onTwitter, Kevin and Nick do a remarkable job covering the baseball program. We're lucky to have those guys putting in the work there!

Now on to Caleb Ketchie! Ketchie is a 6'0 210lbs right-handed pitcher that plays for the Combine Academy Goats. On the travel circuit he suits up with the Dirtbags Skrap Pak, which is absolutely loaded with D1 talent (almost 20 commits based on a roster I came across).

Ketchie was previoulsy committed to the Radford Highlanders and has flipped to Charlotte. I've put in some clips—thanks to Twitter—below where you can watch him in action.

Enjoy! ??

Commitment tweet

Ketchie is a great sign for Charlotte. He is someone who is an extremely hard worker and takes care of business in the classroom and on and off the field. He is a low 90s arm and has a four pitch mix that continues to develop every day. We believe he is going to be a great addition to the pitching staff at UNC Charlotte.

For me, I think Caleb will have the ability to come in and log some valuable innings early for Charlotte. He’s a guy who wants the ball and he brings quality stuff to the table. He can run his fastball up to 94 mph and he’s got a swing-and-miss breakingball to boot. He had a great summer and fall season for the Dirtbags and pitched some big games for us.

Q&A with Ketchie

A49: Caleb, congratulations on your commitment to Charlotte. What led you to choose Charlotte?
CK: I just love every single thing about UNC Charlotte from the school itself to all of the facilities. The facilities are top notch. The coaches and technology are even better.

A49: From your Perfect Game profile I see you listed as an RHP/1B/3B. What position/s has Charlotte recruited you at?
CK: I am a right handed pitcher only.

A49: (Assuming they are looking at you as pitcher with this one) When evaluating the Charlotte program, how much did their relationship with P3 factor into your decision?
CK: It was a deal breaker for me with everything that coach Woodard showed me with all the programs and throwing routines.

A49: I've seen your FB velocity listed anywhere from 88-93, is that an accurate range for yourself currently?
CK: I have been 90-92 recently and up to 94.

A49: Aside from a FB, what other pitches are a part of your arsenal?
CK: I throw fastball, curveball and slider.

A49: What areas in your development are you focusing on most at the moment?
CK: I am focusing most right now on improving my rapsodo numbers and pitch profile.

A49: Any message you'd like to share with Niner Nation?
CK: I can’t wait to get to Charlotte and be a Niner! It’s gonna be a blast!
