Clemson part-time starting Guard is heading to the 704
Michell Mayes (6’3, 305), a former four-star prospect per 247Sports composite rankings, entered the transfer portal on November 29th after spending 4 seasons at Clemson, redshirting in 2020. He’ll have one year of eligibility remaining and is able to play immediately. During his 4 seasons, Mayes started 9 games for the Tigers (4 in 2022, 5 in 2023), and played nearly 1,000 snaps for the Tigers. He has not posted any offers he received during his portal recruitment to Twitter.
Charlotte’s offensive line will look almost entirely different next year as they lose Jasper Parks, Kevin Williams, Lucas Gramlick and Jonathan Bass to graduation. John Morookian’s group also has lost Jordan Daniels, Rene Miller, Jai’Lun Hampton and Micah Sumpter to the portal. Who returns? Johnny King (Center) who suffered a season ending injury, Jahki Green (Right Guard), and Kendall Stanley, who suffered a season ending injury after getting a start in place of a healthy Lucas Gramlick. Grambling State transfer Tyler Thomas will be available for 2024 after sitting out this season and could be a potential starter at Center or Guard.
Mayes visited Charlotte this past weekend, alongside several other OL prospects, and you can learn more about who else visited here. Look for Charlotte to add multiple portal offensive linemen, while developing the promising but inexperienced youth on the roster.
Mayes projects as an immediate starter for Charlotte and could play either Guard or Tackle (limited OT reps at Clemson). He’s as much as a proven Power 5 OL commodity as Charlotte could ask for.
