Yesterday evening Charlotte landed their first commitment of the 2021 cycle as 6'4 Guard Daylen Berry from Panther Creek HS in Cary, NC. I've watched his tape and my immediate thought was: he reminds me of Shawn Lester. While Lester didn't last long in the Charlotte program, his talent/potential was tantalizing. On the travel circuit Berry has spent most of his time with Garner Road, but has also played some this seasons with Tea Marie.
As a Junior at Panther Creek, Berry put up some solid numbers while earning a 1st team all-conference nomination. He averaged: 18pts/g, 6 r/g, 2 a/g, 2 blk/g and 1 to/g. That's a solid stat line, and he did it while shooting 55% from the field and 36% from 3 (on 64 makes).

Daylen was a breakout player this summer. At 6’5, he has nice length and athleticism. His greatest attribute is his ability to score. He can really shoot the ball at a high level with deep range, especially off the catch. He moves well without the ball. He also has the ability to put the ball on the bounce and create his own shot. Defensively, he is very versatile, uses his length well and can guard multiple positions. He will fit in very well with Coach Sanchez’s style of play, both offensively and defensively.
Charlotte is getting a good one—Daylen is a versatile guard, with ability to shoot and get to the paint efficiently. He plays with a chip and I can’t wait to watch him play at the next level.
Daylen has been awesome with the Garner Road Basketball Club. He's a great kid that made the choice to be a part of a program in NC to help build and continue to win. Coach Sanchez is getting a great young man that will contribute on and off the court.

6’3 ’21 Daylen Berry (Tea Marie)
Tea Marie has easily been one of the more impressive teams on display, and Berry has shined on both sides of the ball. He’s an excellent on-ball defender with great quickness, positioning, and anticipation. Berry forces turnovers at a quality rate and understands how to convert in transition. He shoots the ball at a high clip, attacks well off the dribble, and possesses a nice combination of IQ, size, and athleticism.

2021 Daylen Berry (Tea Marie 17u): Berry makes plays with ease. He brings a great combination of attacking the rim with a smooth, effortless touch while also knocking down shots from the perimeter. Berry is a very good two-way player, getting it done on both ends.

2021 6’5 Daylen Berry (Garner Road 3SSB): Berry has shown his smooth game all weekend long but he had a coming out party in his final game on Day 2, scoring 28 points. He did it all over the court, hitting big three’s and showing his range and effectiveness from the perimeter but also continuing to use his length and smooth feel to get to the rim.
