Now we watch

Much like Lu’Cye Patterson in the image above, all we can do now is watch the chaos unfold now that the transfer portal is open, and we didn’t have to wait long. As of now there are reports of two Charlotte 49ers’ hitting the portal: Dishon Jackson and Daylen Berry. Neither should be a surprise to Niner Nation. If you can recall, Dishon Jackson entered the transfer portal after Ron Sanchez quit (apparently via Zoom) and committed to Texas Tech. There was talk that he failed a physical there, but also that since he signed and was enrolled at Charlotte, he would not be immediately eligible at TTU. So, keep an eye on the Red Raiders. After two seasons at CLT, Berry has been unable to crack the regular rotation. Update, Jackson Threadgill has now entered, his departure was already factored into my count of available scholarships below, so no change there. Another update, reserve JUCO guard Sterling Young has entered the portal.

Who’s coming back?

Lu’Cye Patterson, RS SR
Dean Reiber, RS SR
Igor Milicic, SR
Isaiah Folkes, SR
Sterling Young, SR
Dishon Jackson, RS JR
Daylen Berry, RS JR
Iaroslav Niagu, JR
Nik Graves, JR
Rich Rolf, RS FR (medical RS this year)
Nick Richart, RS FR

Portal Contact

I’m going to set up a running list here of who Charlotte has been connected to in the portal, and any info that I come across that is relevant. As things stand, Charlotte has 5 open scholarships they can fill.

PHIL DOTSON III, Rhodes (D3), Guard (STATS)

A new tweet however does not mention Charlotte as a part of his list.

Joseph Pinion, Arkansas, Guard (STATS, he’s a former 4-star)

Kylan Blackmon, Costal Carolina, Guard (STATS)

Antonio Chol, Rutgers, 4/5 (STATS)

Sam Alexis, Chattanooga, 4/5 (STATS)

AJ Smith, Citadel, 2/3 (STATS)

Jalen Leach, Fairfield, 2/3 (STATS)
