This week Biff Poggi and his Charlotte 49ers Football staff landed their first verbal commitment of the 2024 class. Deshawn Purdie, a 6’4 205 Quarterback from Millford Mill Academy (Baltimore, MD), announced his commitment to the program on Twitter. Per 247Sports all-time recruit rankings, DeShawn Purdie comes in as Charlotte’s 4th highest commitment all-time from the high school ranks.

Purdie, who transferred to Milford Mill Academy prior to last season, led the Millers to a 13-0 record an a Class 2A State Championship. It was the programs first such title since 1987. Below you can view Purdie’s 2022 season highlights via HUDL:
Purdie, to my knowledge, has not had any official visits yet, but has been to a handful of programs over the past few months, including a trip to the 704 and his future home two weekends ago. He holds offers from a handful of programs, including Maryland, JMU, and Akron. Per his Twitter, he’s also been on unofficials to Maryland, JMU, Texas, and Texas A&M.
The old adage for football recruiting is that the real recruitment starts once someone commits. Given Purdie’s frame and arm-talent, plus his on-field success, it won’t be a surprise when, not if, more programs come calling on him before Early Singing Day in December 2023.
