The Charlotte 49ers football program didn’t waste any time in finding their next head coach. Announced Tuesday, the university has hired Biff Poggi from Michigan.

Poggi, 61, has a lot of prior coaching experience, the latest as the associate head coach at Michigan. The Wolverines are in the midst a stellar year, and bringing Poggi on board will prove to mean the 49ers we’re looking for experience to lead the team moving forward.

“We are extremely fortunate to welcome Biff Poggi as our head football coach,” said Director of Athletics Mike Hill. “He is a transformational leader and has a sterling reputation as a coach, having had phenomenal success at the highest levels of college and high school football. But he is much more than that. He has demonstrated it by pouring himself into young men and communities, and the results have been spectacular. We are thrilled to have Biff and his wife, Amy, join Niner Nation and the Charlotte community.”

While this might not be the hire many fans would lean towards, it is one that the athletic department felt necessary. Poggi brings an incredible amount of experience to a young 49er program that has been struggling since its 2019 season.

Mike Hill will be addressing the team Tuesday evening.
