Another weekend batch of visitors are slated to visit the Queen City as Charlotte looks to lock down prospects as the December 20th early signing period is steadily approaching. You can see who was slated to visit CLT last week here.
The month of December is an extremely fluid month for staffs and prospects, with the transfer portal in full swing, you also have the coaching carousel (head and assistant coaches). Biff Poggi's coaching staff has already experienced several changes, get caught up below:
- Kyle DeVan leaving to go to Oregon State, his alma mater. DeVan was under contract, so there could be buyout money heading our way from this. He was the Associate Head Coach, and Offensive Line Coach.
- Michael Hartline is out as Wide Receivers coach, and he is being replaced by Jason Barnes, who spent time here and at Coast Carolina as an off the field offensive roles. Barnes played high school ball at Independence in Charlotte and collegiately at South Carolina. He spent time assistant at Dutch Fork in South Carolina under Tommy Knotts, and has trained some standout Wide Receivers: Elijah Spencer (Minnesota and Charlotte), Devin Hyatt (Arizona), Jaylin Hyatt (New York Giants), and Antonio Williams (Clemson).
- Tim Brewster, who recently resigned from Colorado, has been hired as Associate Head Coach and Tight Ends coach. He'll make $250,000 per year.
- John Morookian was previously Charlotte's Offensive Tackles and Tight Ends coach, he'll shift his focus to Offensive Line with the departure of Devan and addition of Brewster.
- Rod Ojong is leaving the program to join Curt Cignetti's staff at Indiana. He was the Cornerbacks coach this season and did an incredible job transforming the performance of that unit.
- Football Scoop has mentioned Charlotte is targeting veteran assistant Sal Sunseri, who was at Colorado this past season as well, to join the staff. Sunseri has an extensive coaching career in college and the NFL. His experience is primarily Defensive Line and Linebacker focused, so there could be either shuffling of responsibilities on this side, or a domino effect to the staff on this side.
