Biff Poggi and staff hosted 9 recruits over the weekend

The staff has been incredibly busy hosting a plethora of visitors from high school, JUCO and the transfer portal. Watch to catch up on the previous visitors, check out this post (updated to note who has committed to CLT since these visits). In case you are wondering, I think 9 of those have committed (so far..).

Clearly, they are heavily tapping into Biff's expansive DMV connections, which is great and to-be-expected. I'll be curious to see when we start to see more non-DMV prospects jump up on the radar. Also, the one position that we have yet to see emerge on these lists is Quarterback. It's certainly a position they are looking at via the portal, and personally I feel it'll be best to have an experienced student-athlete come in to compete with Xavier Williams and James Foster.

CURRENT COMMIT

TeQuan Latimore, Georgia Military College, Defensive Back (current commit)
Latimore committed to Charlotte back on November 25th, and having that followed up with an official visit should seal the deal here. Listed at 6'3, 195, Latimore has good size for the backend of the defense. He also holds offers from Bowling Green, Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky, and others.

TRANSFER PROSPECTS

Katron Evans, Jackson State transfer, Defensive Line
Evans was listed at 6'5, 315 on Jackson State's site. He played his Freshman season but redshirted this year, I'm unsure if that was due to injury or any other circumstance. Evans was a major recruit for JSU out of St. Frances Academy, he was a 4-star recruit (200th overall) and held offers from: Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Ohio State, etc (full list). Evans would have 3 years here at Charlotte, and would be a major get to help bolster the defensive line.

Ryan Butler, Princeton transfer, Running Back
Butler is a bruising force at RB, listed at 5'11, 215, he was named a finalist for the Jerry Rice award (top FCS freshman), and honorable mention for all-Ivy (they only list 2 teams for all-Ivy awards). Coming out of Bergen HS in NJ Butler had a heavy offer sheet from Ivy programs as well as all the service academies. Should have 3 seasons of eligibility remaining.

Tyrin Woodby, West Virginia transfer, Defensive Back
Woodby was a 3-star in the class of 2022 from St. Frances Academy and landed at WVU. After 1 season in Morganton, he's entered the portal. He had offers from: Buffalo, Liberty, Marshall, Maryland, UMass, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, Temple and VT. Should have 4 seasons of eligibility remaining.

Austin Fontaine, Maryland transfer, Offensive Line
Let's call Fontaine a swiss-army knife (6'3 260), he's bounced around from defense to offensive line/tight end, and back to defense for the Terps. Due to COVID, he'll have 1 season remaining. Fontaine was a 4-star prospect in the 2018 class out of DeMatha Catholic in MD.

JUCO + HS PROSPECTS

Caleb Brown, Butler JUCO, Defensive Back
Brown is originally from Lithonia Springs, GA, this year at Butler he recorded 39 tackles and 5 Interceptions. Has offers from UTEP and Northern Illinois.

PJ Wilkins, St. Frances Academy / Ga Tech commit, Offensive Tackle
Wilkins is a large human at 6'7, 335. I'm surprised he's not currently rated at 247, but he is a 3-star at On3 and ESPN. Wilkins verballed to GT November 19th, and has an OV set for December 16th with GT. Holds offers from: GT, USF, CLT and Boston College.

Kyree Benton, St. Frances Academy, Wide Receiver
Benton is a 6'1, 175 WR from Poggi's old stomping grounds. He's not currently rated by any services but has an offer from CLT + Boston College.

Lacota Dippre, Lakeland HS (PA), Tight End
A 6'3, 230 prospect that has a host of FCS offers in addition to FBS offers from: Bowling Green, Kent State, and Army. His older brother just hit the portal from Maryland and picked up a Bama offer, so there is some good pedigree there, and new Charlotte Offensive Coordinator was his brothers position coach for the Terps.
