BOOM, #21nup stays hot

Will Healy and the Charlotte staff stay hot on the 2021 trail as they have now landed their 11th commitment in the class, and 3rd in the past week. DJ Brown, a Linebacker from Memphis University School (TN), announced his commitment to the program today. This is the commitment that was originally signaled Monday night around 9pm by @CharlotteFTBL on Twitter.

Currently Brown is not yet rated at 247sports but I feel that will change sooner rather than later. His offer sheet is more than solid, mutlitple G5's, along with 1 P5 offer (more on that in the Q&A).

247sports profile

Charlotte fans are going to love D.J. Not only is a he a terrific football player, he’s as good as you can possibly get off the field. He has a high motor, knows the game inside and out and is a joy to interview. He’s the kind of guy a team like Charlotte can really build its program around.

Q&A with Brown

A49: DJ, congratulations on your commitment to Charlotte. What led you to choose Charlotte?
DB: As soon as I stepped on campus, it instantly felt like home. My family and I were very impressed with Coach Healy and his staff. I feel like I can come in, compete and help the team in any way possible! Also, the state of North Carolina has also been a place I would like to live one day, and what a better opportunity than starting at UNC Charlotte!!

A49: Who on the Charlotte staff was your primary recruiter? What's that relationship like?
DB: Coach Braithwaite, linebackers’ coach, was my primary recruiter. I truly believe Coach B and I have started a great relationship. We talk a few times a week, even if it’s just to see how school went or how the family is. We get along very well!

A49: Were you able to visit campus prior to the pandemic, if yes, what were your thoughts on campus and the facilities?
DB: Not prior, but we have family a few hours away in Florence, SC, so we decided to roll through the campus since it was so close and were able to get on a FaceTime call with the coaches who kind of pointed things out for us to look at. We were very impressed with the campus! It was amazing and it was great to see they were also building! Unfortunately, we were unable to meet them personally and go inside to see the facilities, but I’ve seen plans of what’s to come and I’m excited!

A49: What would you say are your strengths at the Linebacker spot? What are you looking to work the most on prior to getting on campus?
DB: I believe my strengths are listening, my speed, strength, and my ability to process plays quickly, which comes from dedication to film studies. Honestly, I’m just going to keep working on the fundamentals. I’m always looking for ways to improve. Speed, Strength, and knowledge of the game is important!

A49: When are you looking to enroll? Any plans on what you're looking to study at Charlotte?
DB: I will be enrolling in the summer. MUS doesn’t allow us to enroll early at schools. I plan on studying either environmental science or something in the business field.

A49: In addition to Charlotte, what other programs have offered you?
DB: UAB, Navy, Coastal Carolina, Southern Miss, Liberty, Rice, Tennessee State, UT Martin, Austin Peay, Southeast Missouri State, Louisiana, Army, Southern Illinois, Furman, Eastern Kentucky , Tennessee Tech, Ball State, Mercer, Western Carolina, Jacksonville State, Samford, Georgia State, Murray State, Wake Forest, Western Illinois, UT Chattanooga, Wofford, Missouri State, Central Arkansas, Toledo.

A49: Any message you'd like to share with Niner Nation?
DB: I’m so excited to be joining the family! #ClubLit
