Will Healy’s Niners continue to search for answers on defense

Before I get started here, I’d like to give a shoutout to Charlotte students, they brought it to JRS on Friday night. They continue to do their part in creating a fun atmosphere for fans and student-athletes.

William & Mary exposed Charlotte’s defensive woes and wore down Charlotte late in the game to pull away to the a 41-24 victory. The Tribe notched 3 scores in the 4th quarter to seal the deal on their first win over an FBS team since 2009. William & Mary tallied over 550 total yards on offense, which comes off the heels of FAU netting 480 yards in Week 0.

Simply put, the defensive woes are still present for Charlotte and to this point the changes on that side of the ball are not yet materializing. It will be interesting to see if there are any changes to responsibilities on that side of the ball before we host Maryland.

During this stretch of losing 7 out of 8 games, Charlotte has allowed almost 45 points per game, while giving up 495 yards per game.

Xavier Williams flashes potential

With questions surrounding the future of the quarterback position, the Redshirt Freshman quarterback was thrust into action after James Foster was knocked out of the game, and displayed his potential for the future. Williams threw for over 200 yards, ran for almost 50, which included 2 TD runs (2, 67).

Chris Reynolds status

At last week’s press conference Will Healy made it sound likely that the sixth-year quarterback would likely be back for the Maryland game. We should find out more on his potential availability tomorrow during the programs weekly press conference.

Charlotte hosts Maryland on Saturday, September 10

Charlotte will look to rebound from a disappointing 0-2 start as they host the Terps, who are 1-0 after defeating the Buffalo Bulls this weekend 31-10. Maryland put up almost 450 yards on offense while holding Buffalo to only 270. Maryland is currently -26 and the o/u is setting at 67.5. More to come later this week from the team on this one.
