Back in January I reported that Charlotte Football and Biff Poggi would be teaming up with HBO for a documentary (article) during his first season in the 704. Fast-forward six months and the documentary is still coming this Fall, but has shifted platforms. The 12-episode series will now be aired on ESPN+. The current timeline for the first episode is the week of September 4th. This would immediately follow Charlotte’s season opener on September 2nd at home versus South Carolina State.
This to me feels like a win to Charlotte fans, and spectators of college football in general, as more viewers will have access to ESPN+ than HBO.
The documentary was referred to me as a “Hard Knocks” style of programming. If done right, it’s a tremendous opportunity for Charlotte to spread the Forty-Niners brand nationally, but also capture some fans along the way. If there’s one thing we’ve learned in the first 8 months of Biff Poggi being the head football coach at Charlotte, he knows how to kick-start the media into talking about Charlotte.
Can’t. Wait.
