Charlotte Bye Week Questions

by Agent49 | Oct 9, 2024 | Football

Bye week blues are fully sitting in now that the excitement of the weekend is waning. As of now Charlotte sits in a group of 5 schools that are currently undefeated in the AAC: Army (4-0), Navy (3-0), Tulane & Charlotte both at (2-0), and North Texas at (1-0). The gauntlet ahead of Charlotte is formidable, as the Niners will face Navy and Memphis in back-to-back road games, then are set to host Tulane and USF, and I imagine Byrum Brown will be back by then, as he's already day-to-day per Alex Golesh this week.

Bye Week Questions

Max Brown and his status? Given additional healing time the bye week affords to Brown, his dressing out for ECU and participating in practice during that game week, odds seem favorable for him to return to the starting lineup against Navy. Make no mistake, that's a good thing, but how will that impact the rhythm that Mike Miller's unit has developed over their last six quarters of action under DeShawn Purdie?

Ja'Qurious Conley's availability? While we still have a limited amount of information on the specifics, one can hope that more time plays into Charlotte and Conley's favor with the NCAA and resolved the situation and getting him cleared to play for the final six games.

Looking ahead a bit with this one, but I don't think the question is "Can Charlotte stop the run" at Navy, it's "Can they slow it down" enough to win. Event in the convincing win over ECU, the Pirates managed to run for 5.9 yards per carry. Per TeamRankings.com, Charlotte is 122nd in yards allowed per carry versus FBS competition, at 5.7 yards. Linebackers must have much better eye discipline and patience in this one if Charlotte is to slow down Navy, who averages 6.8 yards per carry, tied for 2nd nationally with Army.
