After the conclusion for the season for Ron Sanchez his Charlotte Basketball program, there has been several updates for players that Charlotte has reached out to on the trail, a transfer portal entry and the anchor of team declaring for the NBA Draft, while maintaining his collegiate eligibility.
Today Verbal Commits broke the news that Charlotte basketball big man Jared Garcia has entered his name into the transfer portal. This move opens up a 3rd scholarship for the staff to use as they look to retool the roster heading into next season.

Jahmir Young declares for NBA Draft

Yesterday Charlotte’s star Point Guard Jahmir Young announced he’d be entering the 2022 NBA Draft, while maintaining his collegiate eligibility. Young, a two-time Conference USA First-Team selection, has been projected as a mid-to-late 2nd round pick in the 2023 draft at NBAdraft.net for a while. Currently Young is projected as the 59th pick in 2023 draft.
I think it would naive to assume Young returns to Charlotte. He could enter the NBA G League, the transfer portal (where he’d be higly coveted for obvious reasons), or return to Charlotte. I’ll keep beating this drum, Charlotte’s staff has played a key role in developing Jahmir Young into a a guard with a shot to make it to the league. That’s a good feather in the cap for this staff to keep Young here should he withdraw from the draft.
OFFERS extended
The staff has recently extended several offers to 2022 prospects. We have an article higlighting one of those, Rich Rolf, a Forward out of Ohio. In a rare move, the staff has offered offered a Junior College prospect from Salt Lake CC, Jordan Brinson. Recently Brinson has been offered by FIU and West Virginia. I’ll work on a writeup of Brinson soon.

Expressed an interest
Charlotte has been linked to several transfers in the portal so far, some within reach and others have committed elsewhere or are just being recruited at a higher level.
Not happening
Let’s get these guys out of the way.
Jaylan Gainey, a transfer big man from Brown, has visited and committed to Florida State. Another transfer we reportedly reached out to is Nelly Cummings, Guard from Colgate. Seems he might be a Pittsburgh lean at the moment, but his recruitment overall is simply out of Charlotte’s reach.
Colgate transfer Nelly Cummings (@Ambition___0) tells me that he's heard from: Oklahoma, USC, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Clemson, Arkansas, Pitt, Florida, Vanderbilt Georgia Tech, Stanford, VCU Temple, NC State, Wichita State, Washington, Utah, Xavier, Ohio State, Wake Forest, +.

So you’re telling me there’s a chance
Here’s the realistic candidates that we know of for now.
I recently profiled Omaha transfer guard Felix Lemetti, you can read more about him here. Here are 2 updates on Lemetti’s recruitment since it was published.
Lemetti tells me that the latest schools to enter his recruitment are UNC Asheville, Lipscomb, & Winthrop. https://t.co/hObcfg60tv

There are 4 other transfers that I’ve seen Charlotte listed with so far: Sheldon Edwards (Valpo), Nathan Johnson (UMBC), Adong Makoui (Northern Illinois), and JaCobi Wood (Belmont). More on each below.
Valpo transfer Sheldon Edwards (@sheldonnn13) tells me that he's heard from FAU, FIU, USF, Stetson, Grand Canyon, Santa Clara, Loyola Chicago, BYU, App State, Duquesne, Charlotte, Loyola Marymount, Indiana State, Georgia State, ++.

Edwards averaged 11.4 PPG & 4.2 RPG.
Nathan Johnson, UMBC, 6’7 Forward
Johnson has played 3 seasons at UMBC and hit the portal on March 24th. Pretty solid range of interest for him at this stage in his recruitment.
UMBC transfer Nathan Johnson tells me that’s he’s heard from:

Jacobi Wood, Belmont, 6’2 Guard
Johnson has played 3 seasons at UMBC and hit the portal on March 24th. Wood has a really diverse set of teams that’s reached out so far, he entered the portal yesterday so likely more updates as to who all has reached out to come over the next couple days.
Programs that have reached out to Belmont transfer Jacobi Wood and his high school coach, UGA, LSU, USC, Elon, Colorado, TX A&M, NC State, Charlotte, Murray State, Stetson, Radford, Jacksonville St, SMU, Vanderbilt, Evansville, UTMartin,App State, Furman, Wofford, SIU & W. Fla
