Charlotte replenishes QB room with Power 5 transfer
Charlotte’s Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks coach Mike Miller has landed a Quarterback to join his room that just had 2 scholarship players hit the portal (James Foster and Xavier Williams). That left the staff with Jalon Jones (presumably QB1 for the fall) and true freshman Carson Black (whom they flipped from Memphis for a early signing period surprise back in December).
Enter Bennett Meredith
Meredith was at one time committed to Northwestern, but then his recruitment reopened prior to the 2022 class early signing period in December 2021. His recruitment at that time turned into a race between Maryland and Arizona State, with former HC Herm Edwards and his staff securing his commitment. There establishes Meredith’s familiarity with Charlotte’s OC Mike Miller, who was at Maryland then. Meredith did not play at Arizona State, redshirting his lone season in the desert. He’ll have 4 seasons here at Charlotte.
It’s worth noting that Charlotte beat out multiple AAC teams in Meredith’s portal recruitment.
Given that Charlotte now has 3 scholarship QB’s for the fall in hand, I’d imagine their efforts now in the portal will center around other spots, primarily wide receiver, offensive line and secondary.
